For over 20 years, Peter has been involved in the preparation, quantification and assessment of major commercial insurance claims.
After commencing his career with chartered accounting firm, KPMG, Peter joined GAB Robins (now Cunningham Lindsey) as a specialist Business Interruption adjuster. While at GAB Robins, Peter was actively involved in many complex and high value commercial losses encompassing business interruption, property, and financial losses. Major claims that Peter was involved in while at GAB Robins include losses at the Moura Mine in Queensland in 1994, the Porgera Mine in Papua New Guinea in 1994, the Rabaul Volcano disaster in 1995, the Townsville Cyclone in 1997, and the Victorian Gas Crisis in 1998.
Peter left GAB Robins in 1999 to co-found MSM Loss Management (previously Loss Management International), a firm of specialist insurance and accounting professionals, dedicated to providing a range of accounting and loss management services to Insureds following major losses.
His experience embraces a wide range of industries including mining and exploration, manufacturing, petrochemical, power generators, accommodation, tourism, sugar, public utilities, retailing, leisure, gaming and entertainment. The work performed by Peter extends beyond the preparation and quantification of the claim through to working with your Broker and other services providers to shape the strategic direction of claims and negotiations with Insurers and Re-insurers.
Since co-founding MSM Loss Management, Peter Rink has been involved in preparing some of the largest insurance claims in Australia, including claims in excess of USD1.0bn arising from the flooding of mines owned by BHP Billiton and its joint venture partners in 2008 and 2010, claims by Anglo American connected with damage to mines, and various claims by Glencore connected with machinery damage and fires.
Peter has also been appointed on major mining claims throughout Africa and South American as well as numerous other major international claims including losses in the Philippines (Quezon power station), Tahiti (Intercontinental resort, Bora Bora), Germany (Orica explosives), and the UAE (Dubal aluminium plant).
Peter has also given evidence as an expert witness in several Supreme Court matters and adjusted and measured the quantum of claims for litigation and mediation purposes. He is involved in Insurance training programs and is a regular guest speaker at industry functions.
He is also fluent in German and has a base in Italian.
